  1. About the Astrophysics Research Institute

The Astrophysics Research Institute is interested in star formation, stellar evolution, time-domain astrophysics, galaxy formation and clusters, dynamics and evolution. Our aim is to become an internationally recognised centre of excellence in astrophysics. Find out more about the Institute, including our Research Excellence Framework results and who we collaborate with.

  2. Expertise within the Astrophysics Research Institute

The Astrophysics Research Institute specialist subject areas include theoretical galaxy formation, time domain astrophysics, stellar populations and astronomical instrumentation. Discover more about each of these areas.

  3. Social behaviour, ecology and conservation

Our interest lies in the evolution of animal societies and the interactions that occur within these societies and their link to emotion, cognition and communication. We primarily study primates (including humans) but also other species including birds. Find out more about the Social Behaviour, Ecology and Conservation Research Group's work, collaborations, publications and meet the research team.

  4. Human variation and adaptability

Through the fields of palaeoanthropology, bioarchaeology, palaeogenetics, evolutionary genetics and human biology - we study human variation. Discover more about human variation and adaptability, the projects we are currently working on, read our papers, and meet the researchers.

  5. Alcohol

At the Public Health Institute we look into alchohol consumption and harm across a range of populations and environments. We take up original research and study established datasets to understand the impacts of alcohol on society.

  6. Tobacco

The Public Health Institute investigates interventions with the aim of reducing tobacco use. We look at the relationship between smoking behaviours and demographics, income, parental smoking, leisure activities and alcohol consumption.

  7. International public health

The Public Health Institute's expertise into international public health includes: maternal and reproductive health, the promotion of health, refugee health, violence prevention, drug abuse, and more. Find out more about this aspect of research.

  8. Digital Health Interest Group

The Digital Health Interest Group within the Institute for Health Research are actively engaged with digital health research and aim to develop long-standing interventions to improve health care and pathways.
