1. Masters students show work at Art and Design degree show

   A weeklong celebration of work from graduating postgraduate students has opened at the School of Art and Design.

2. LJMU and LCR collaboration creates 44 apprentices for autism charity

   LJMU has collaborated with LCR to transfer £132,000 of unspent Apprenticeship Levy to Autism Initiatives, funding 44 new apprentice care workers for the charity.

   Liverpool City Council will shortly begin the process of demolishing the Churchill Way flyovers.

5. LJMU receives Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence and National Teaching Fellowship

   LJMU is one of 15 teams to win the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) and an LJMU academic has also been awarded one of 54 National Teaching Fellows (NTF). Dr Philip Denton, Principal Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, is the recipient of the NTF and the paramedic team at LJMU’s Schools of Nursing and Allied Health received the CATE.

6. A giant interstellar bubble being grown in the Andromeda Galaxy

   An international team of astrophysicists have uncovered an enormous bubble current being ‘blown’ by the regular eruptions from a binary star system within the Andromeda Galaxy.

7. Report reveals LJMU is Merseyside's best provider of teacher training

   LJMU is the best provider of teacher training in Merseyside, following the outcome of the latest report produced by the independent inspector of schools and teacher training, Ofsted.

8. Discovery of a New Galaxy in Cosmic Neighbourhood

   Astronomers, including Professor Maurizio Salaris from the Astrophysics Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University, used the Hubble Space Telescope to photograph the globular star cluster NGC 6752 (located 13,000 light-years away in our Milky Way's halo).

9. One of only eight universities to secure prestigious international funding

   LJMU has been awarded approximately £490,000 from Research England’s first ever International Investment Initiative (I3). The award has been jointly made to LJMU and The University of Western Australia (UWA) for the international collaboration project, i-CARDIO. The project has a dual focus; the first component is the delivery of workshops to develop innovative ways to detect cardiovascular diseases for preventative intervention using imaging techniques. The second element is the evaluation of Australia’s model of accreditation of clinical exercise scientists and physiologists. The accreditation incorporates university and work place-based learning to enable graduates to secure roles in the healthcare system as recognised allied health professionals.

10. Academics support project to protect sex workers from violence

    LJMU is set to be part of a ground-breaking Merseyside partnership that protects sex workers from violence.
