3. Care experienced girls and young women still at risk of unnecessary criminalisation

   Girls and women who have been through the care system should be diverted away from custodial sentences into community alternatives wherever possible, says a new report published today (Weds 4 May 2022). And the study adds that moves to prevent the criminalisation of girls in care need to be high on the agenda for change.

4. Another ‘first’ for LJMU in Sport and Exercise Sciences

   Professor Zoe Knowles is set to become the first woman to chair the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).

5. Schoolchildren train with sport scientists through LFC Foundation partnership

   The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences welcomed 10 young people from the LFC Foundation to its Performance Sport Unit during the Easter holidays to learn more about the science behind football.

6. Celebrating a decade of sport science internships with Everton Football Club

   As many as 60 graduates from the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences have secured roles at professional football clubs in England and overseas over the past decade thanks to an internship scheme with Everton Football Club.

7. Liverpool FC Women rise to the top with an assist from LJMU

   Liverpool FC Women clinched the title of the FA Women's Championship and promotion earlier this month, thanks in part to the help of backroom sport science experts from LJMU.

8. School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences launches Athena Swan Action Plan

   LJMUs School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences (PBS) has launched their Athena Swan 12-point action plan this week.

9. First-of-its-kind Jamaican art exhibition opening in Liverpool

   The first exhibition of wholly Jamaican art to be displayed in North-West England will find its home in Liverpool this spring. The exhibition has been curated by Dr Emma Roberts, Associate Dean for Global Engagement for the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies at LJMU.

10. Registration open for conference on decolonial approaches to teaching and research

    A mini-conference highlighting developments in decolonial approaches to teaching and research across the university featuring three sessions of talks and discussion on decolonising pedagogy, assessment and research methods, will take place in November.
