1. REF 2021 Consideration for Individual Circumstances

   As part of the University's commitment to supporting equality and diversity in the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), we have put in place safe and supportive structures for eligible academic staff to declare information about any equality-related circumstances that may have affected their ability to research productively during the assessment period (1 January 2014 - 31 December 2020), and particularly their ability to produce research outputs at the same rate as staff not affected by circumstances.

   Sky News anchor Gillian Joseph delivered a brutally honest account of being black in Britain in the LJMU Roscoe Lecture on Wednesday.

4. LJMU launches pioneering scheme with senior Black leaders from across the Liverpool City Region

   The launch of the programme, yesterday evening at Liverpool John Moores University, saw the 26 leaders finding out who they had been paired with.

5. School of Humanities and Social Sciences create Craft Club for student wellbeing

   The department of Media, Culture, Communication in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has established a new initiative to create space for students to socialise and support their wellbeing.

6. Residential Success for Children in Care

   LJMU welcomed 25 young people in care to their annual Year 10 Residential aimed at giving the Year 10 students a real taste of life at University.

7. Launch of MSc Emergency Care module

   The universitys new and innovative MSc Emergency Care module has been well received, with more than 200 stakeholders, leaders and healthcare professionals attending the launch symposium.

8. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

   It has been called the last men's club in journalism, but expect a much more female future for the UK's sport coverage.

10. Major new study into impacts of COVID-19 on children

    A major study has been launched to learn more about the impact of COVID-19 on children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
