Kelly is a former international 400m athlete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European medals to her name. She was one of the first sport scholars to study with LJMU in the late 2000’s and has been a lecturer with our School of Sports and Exercise Sciences since 2018.
Rio Boothe is an LJMU student and a para-athlete. He competes in athletics with the Manchester Harriers and with the LJMU Athletics Team. He’s a real role model for others with disabilities and is striving to raise awareness about the challenges disabled people face when trying to access sport.

The LJMU Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity Network aims to connect PE teachers and sport coaches working in schools with staff and students across the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences programmes.
Professor Frank Sanderson is one of the pioneering team that launched the sport science degree at Liverpool Polytechnic and was admissions tutor in September 1975 when the first students enrolled.
Beth graduated with a degree in sports science in 2007 and was in the very first class of scholars in the Sports Scholarship programme that launched in 2004. She is renowned as Britain’s greatest-ever female gymnast.
