    The Public Health Institute investigates interventions with the aim of reducing tobacco use. We look at the relationship between smoking behaviours and demographics, income, parental smoking, leisure activities and alcohol consumption.

  2. Violence and unintentional injury

    As a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Violence Prevention, the Public Health Institute works to support effective violence prevention by helping partners understand the impacts of violence, identify risk groups, choose preventative measures and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

  3. Environment and sustainability

    At the Public Health Institute we provide advice to policymakers in consideration of the relationship between the environment and public health. Projects include: the use of parks, climate change, economic benefits of green infrastructure and evaluation of green projects for the community.

    HIV services and prevention work within the North West of England utilise the Public Health Institute's interactive tools, databases, and intelligence work. We offer assistance through evaluations and research into: contraception, teenage pregnancy, STDs, young people's health.
