Scouse Flowerhouse Soil Enhancement Project
We're creating a better soil to flower up Maryland Street
This event has already taken place. The Environmental Sustainability and Energy Team will be partnering with Scouse Flowerhouse to undertake soil improvements along Maryland Street. Inspired by the vision of Education Staff at LJMU, the plan is to create a colourful corridor beneath the majestic plane trees.
We currently have a row of well-established trees that have compacted soil underneath. In order to allow for future planting and seeding of wildflowers under the trees, we first need to improve the condition and permeability of the soil. We will do this by spreading local leaf litter and Mersey grit below the trees to allow the build-up of a new nutritious soil layer, and for this we need some volunteer help!
