School engagement in engineering and technology
Discover the exciting world of engineering and technology
The current skills shortage in engineering, built environment and technology has confirmed our commitment to raising awareness of the wide variety of career pathways open to students.
Our aim is to offer the best possible advice and guidance to teachers and students about engineering and technology disciplines, including electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, built environment, computing and mathematics.
Why not take advantage of our range of workshops, talks and visit days which encourage progression to higher education and inspire the next generation of engineering and technology graduates?
Outreach activities
- Teacher Open Afternoon: provides teachers and career advisors with
the opportunity to discover what careers are open to students pursuing a degree in engineering, built environment and
technology. We will provide key information about entry
requirements, tours of our outstanding facilities and information about our
engineering and technology outreach opportunities
- LJMU Maths Cup: A level maths students work together in teams of four,
competing against other sixth forms and colleges on a set of maths problems
- Drone Technology:
we introduce drone technology like you’ve never seen it before, taking a look
at the components that make up the many shapes and sizes of these amazing
devices. We will dive into the range of applications that drone technology is
currently being used for whilst taking a look at examples from our own
Drone Research Group. The afternoon will also include a tour of our
excellent engineering facilities
- Audio and Video Production:
in this hands-on interactive session, students will restore an
old recording and use world-leading software to help identify clues or evidence
from a crime scene. They'll take on the various roles needed to make a live
TV show (such as
camera operators, floor manager, vision mixer, audio engineer, presenter, etc.)
- Get into the Built Environment: we'll raise awareness of the higher education pathways available and the career opportunities within the built environment. The workshop will include hands-on activities and information sessions, as well as a tour of our fantastic facilities
For dates and to register your interest in these sessions please contact Caroline Arnold. Visit our Outreach section for more information about workshops, talks and other activities.
