Join us as we celebrate 50 years of excellence in Sport and Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moores University. This special event brings together alumni, former staff, partnership representatives, and current students to reflect on our shared journey and achievements.
Event schedule
- 10am to 12pm: Open House – Tom Reilly Building (TRB)
Explore live demonstrations and exhibitions, and hear inspiring stories from our community. Groups will be taken across from the Social Zone for the Open House. - 12 to 1.15pm: Networking Lunch – Social Zone, Upper and Lower Starbucks
Connect with fellow attendees over a relaxed lunch - 1.30 to 4.30pm: Afternoon Seminar Series
Participate in insightful talks and discussions as we reflect on the past 50 years of Sport and Exercise Science at LJMU. - 4.30 to 6.30pm: Reception with Light Snacks – Social Zone, Upper and Lower Starbucks

Tommy Fleetwood Receives Honorary Fellowship
Date: 28 March 2025
LJMU awarded an honorary fellowship to golfing great Tommy Fleetwood in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences. Tommy has worked closely with our researchers to optimise his performance using cutting-edge sports science, which has played a significant role in his success.
Dr. Becky Murphy, Director of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, said:
Tommy’s connections to the Liverpool region run deep. A passionate Everton supporter, Tommy’s love for the city and its sporting heritage is unwavering. He works closely with the School of Sport and Exercise Science, working with our researchers to optimise his physical performance. His commitment to utilising cutting-edge sports science to enhance his golf and overall health has undoubtedly contributed to his success at the highest levels of the game.
Tommy’s dedication to sports science and his work with the school make him a valuable asset to both the university and the future of sports performance.

Chancellor visit: Nisha Katona MBE
Date: 14 February 2025
LJMU Chancellor Nisha Katona MBE visited the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, marking the start of our 50th anniversary celebrations. Nisha toured our state-of-the-art facilities, interacted with undergraduate and postgraduate students, and observed demonstrations in areas such as motion capture technology, rehabilitation gamification, and health assessments.
Her visit also included a session with nutrition students, where she sampled a dish from the Kirkby Cookbook, which was developed by students in collaboration with local communities.
