Don't rush to rent
With the year drawing to a close, you may be starting to think about your accommodation for next year.
If you will be privately renting, there is a myth that all the ‘good’ properties go before Christmas. In fact, there is a surplus of private student accommodation in Liverpool so you can take your time to do your research and find the right property later in the academic year.
Think carefully before you sign a tenancy agreement too early; you can’t easily walk away from the contract if you change your mind, as the document is legally binding. This means you legally have to pay the rent for the length of time stated on the contract.
Do your research
LJMU part funds a dedicated private accommodation service called Liverpool Student Homes (LSH) based at 5 Oxford Street. The service is there to support you throughout the time you’re renting private student accommodation in Liverpool and is the place to go to search for your next home.
LSH will be hosting a housing fair on Wednesday 4 December where you can meet registered accommodation providers and start to think about your search for private accommodation for next year. All students are welcome at both events and LSH staff will be there to give housing-related advice. Remember, there’s no need to rush to sign a contract as Liverpool has a surplus of private accommodation, so take your time and have a good browse. Properties are added to the Liverpool Student Homes database all year round so there is always a good choice available.
The LSH Housing Fair is on Wednesday 4 December, 11am-3pm at Mountford Hall, Liverpool Guild of Students.
