Sir Brian officially opens Student Life Building
Our Chancellor, Sir Brian Leveson, has unveiled a plaque to officially open our fantastic Student Life Building.
Sir Brian and Mark Power, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive (interim), thanked all staff who have been involved in the project to deliver our flagship development at Copperas Hill.
They also welcomed representatives from the contractor (Morgan Sindall), project management team (Faithful and Gould) and architect (Sheppard Robson).
We were particularly delighted to welcome back a number of former JMSU presidents – along with the current student officer team – who contributed to the development of the plans for Copperas Hill over a number of years.
Following a reception on the ground floor, JMSU officers led our guests on tours of the new facilities.
Sir Brian unveiled a plaque and cut a ribbon to formally mark the opening of the building.
He said: “The Student Life Building, alongside the Sports Building next door, are the very things that make a university campus.
“To have such facilities, including the green spaces, right in the centre of the city is extraordinary and I know that these will serve LJMU well for years to come.
“I’m absolutely delighted to find the students’ union at the heart of this building. I know they will make the most of this space and it will become a thriving centre of student activity thanks to their endeavours.”
If you’ve not yet visited the Student Life Building, you can find out more about the services and facilities it offers here.
The Core Café in the building has now launched its evening menu with a range of pizzas and pasta dishes. It is open until 9pm, Monday to Friday, with last orders taken at 8.30pm.
