New EDI Workshops Announced – Domestic Abuse Awareness & ‘Actions Speak Louder’ Allyship Training 



LJMU's Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Team are proud to be working in partnership with a number of subject specialists, to deliver a range of interactive (online) staff development training opportunities, including the introduction of two brand new courses; a 2 hour Domestic Abuse Awareness Workshop and a 90min 'Actions Speak Louder' Experiential Allyship (Race) training session, as well as the return of LJMU's 3 hour Transgender Awareness Workshop (back by popular demand).

‘Actions Speak Louder’ - Actionable Allyship (Race) Workshop

  • 21st April 2021 (10:00 – 11:30   or   12:30 – 14:00)
  • 14th May 2021 (10:00 – 11:30)

Liverpool John Moores University is proud to be working in partnership with behaviour change specialists, Steps Drama Learning Development in order to provide staff with the opportunity to engage in a virtual (90min) ‘Actionable Allyship Workshop’ that focuses on race.

The session aims to address such subjects as; biases, microaggressions and how to recognise your own privilege and power, in order to become a more effective ally.

Aims & Learning Outcomes of The Workshop

  • To utilise a series of experiential techniques, theory and facilitated discussions to help further engage audiences (participants will NOT be required to perform themselves).
  • Provide an opportunity for participants to experience positive ways to enable conversations about race and Actionable Allyship with colleagues and students.
  • Explore what Actionable Allyship looks like in practice and what role our unconscious bias can play in getting in the way of success.
  • Consider what organisations, teams and individuals can do to create space for conversations about race.

Domestic Abuse Awareness Workshop

Liverpool John Moores University is proud to be working in partnership with evidence-based training specialists, onEvidence Ltd in order to provide staff with the opportunity to engage in a virtual (2 hour) ‘Domestic Abuse Awareness Workshop’.

Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men in their lifetime. The workshop aims to address such subjects as; how to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, where to get help and how best to support a person experiencing abuse.

Aims & Learning Outcomes of The Workshop

This course will enable participants to:

  • Describe what is meant by the term ‘domestic abuse’
  • Be aware of the impact of abuse and violence on victims
  • Explain the prevalence of abuse in the UK
  • Identify key risk factors in victim and perpetrator populations
  • Demonstrate cultural competency

Transgender Awareness Workshop

  • 25th March 2021 (09:30 – 12:30)

LJMU are proud to be working in partnership with Subject Matter Expert; GenderSpace and are pleased to offer LJMU/JMSU Staff the opportunity to participate in a three hour (virtual) ‘Transgender Awareness Workshop’.

The Workshop Will Provide Participants With:

  • An introduction to Trans Awareness.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of gender reassignment.
  • Personal journey of transition.
  • Understand more about transgender Equality Legislation and Rights.
  • Explore key features relating to gender reassignment and the effects on student attainment, retention and staff wellbeing.
  • Develop a customer-centred approach to delivering services to a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Develop a strategy for individual action.
