Laura Bishop at helm as PVC for Science
Professor Laura Bishop has joined LJMU as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science.
Professor Bishop, a former LJMU colleague, started in post this week succeeding Professor Peter Wheeler who retired in 2021 after 40 years' service.
Laura is a native New Yorker with a PhD from Yale University. She joined LJMU in 1999 as a senior lecturer in palaeoanthropology and was promoted to reader and then professor.
She went on to hold a number of senior strategic positions within the Faculty of Science and across the university including Co-Director of the Research Centre in Evolutionary Anthropology and Palaeoecology and Associate Dean for Global Engagement.
Professor Bishop is returning from Shanghai where she has been the Principal of the Sino-British College, USST, since September 2018.
She said: “I’m delighted to be back at LJMU and to see all the positive changes that have been made here. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to lead in this learning community and to work with our amazing students and dedicated staff.
“The Faculty of Science has excellent teaching and world leading research and I look forward to working with the team to make it even more successful.”
