Mum and son graduate together before trip to Anfield!

Rossiters

Two generations of the same Liverpool family today graduated from Liverpool John Moores University – and celebrated by going to the Champions League semi-final.

Cameron Rossiter, 23, and his mum Dawn, 51, celebrated their LJMU awards together at the city’s Anglican Cathedral.

Cameron achieved a Master’s in International Business Law while Dawn was graduating with a Master’s in Human Resource Management.

Both completed their courses during lockdown but were determined to attend the first available ceremony after completing their degrees.

“We wanted to celebrate all the hard work. We'd both done degrees before at LJMU but it was a very different experience for our Masters under lockdown," explained Dawn. "With things closed and working at home, we really had to rely on each other."

"Kept me off my phone!"

“Yes, we worked together a lot,” admits Cameron. “Mum kept me off my phone!”

“Seriously, with mum I always had to knuckle down, reach my word counts and get things finished off. I definitely worked harder with her around.”

The hard work is certainly paying off as Cameron has landed a post with BNY Mellon in the Liver Building and Dawn was recently headhunted as an HR manager for The Flanagan Group.

Family affair

LJMU is certainly a family affair for the Rossiters, who live in Croxteth Park. Not only did Dawn and Cam complete their undergraduate degrees here, dad Paul studied at our School of Built Environment and youngest daughter Isabella is in her first year BA English and Drama.

“We’ll have a few drinks after Cameron’s ceremony and then we’re off to Anfield for the Liverpool match. Hopefully it’ll be a perfect day!”

At the time of going to print, Cameron was preciting a 3-0 lead for the Reds v Villareal.
