Support for transgender and non-binary students
Help, support and how to change your name
Following discussions with our student community we now have dedicated information on our student support webpages, for transgender and non-binary students, to find out how to get help and support while at university, as well requesting a name change via LJMU.
Over the past year, LJMU’s Student Advice and Wellbeing team and Diversity and Inclusion team has been working with JMSU and students to support transgender and non-binary students, with support and practical considerations around name changes, including on ID cards and in lectures.
Our Student Inclusion team is able to act as a first point of contact for students who may need practical support around transitioning at university including using their chosen name in lectures, as well as on ID cards.
Following the discussions with students, if you are a trans/ non-binary student you can now easily access further information on:
-
A dedicated point of contact for support
-
Transitioning while at university
-
Changing your name with the university
You can find out more about the changes and support for transgender and non-binary students here.
International Pronouns Day
Taking place on 18 October this year, JMSU will be handing out pronoun badges around campus as part of the join campaign with the university on ‘getting it right.’ Head to the JMSU reception in the Student Life Building to pick up yours.
Celebrating diversity and respect always
At LJMU we are proud of the diversity of our staff and students and recognise the value that each individual brings to the University. We want every member of our community to feel respected, safe and welcome during their time at LJMU and our commitment to ‘Respect, Always!’ is central to everything we do here at LJMU.
