Getting a new phone during the winter break and need to access your LJMU account?

If you get or buy a new phone for Christmas or over the winter break, you’ll need to register your new device so that you can still access your LJMU account.

Need to access your account with a new phone?

Any new mobile phone, will need to be registered with MFA if you want to use it with your LJMU account. You’ll need your old phone to do part of the registering process, so don’t recycle it just yet.

Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) advice for new devices

To ensure you can continue to log in during the festive season, first go to the following web address (on your old phone or a computer, not your new phone) and log in with your LJMU details:

https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

You’ll need to authenticate this sign-in one last time using the Authenticator app on your old phone.

Step by step instructions

  1. Choose ‘Add sign-in method’
  2. Choose ‘Authenticator App’
  3. Follow the instructions on screen, which begin with downloading the Authenticator app on your new phone.  Eventually you will get a QR code that you scan in the app with the new phone – this links your new phone to your account.
  4. Test your new device works for MFA by browsing to https://mfa.ljmu.ac.uk (opens in a new tab) and using your new phone to authenticate.
  5. Once you’re sure everything works, delete the old phone: in the list, on the Microsoft security info page, you should see your old device and a delete button – click delete to remove the app from your old phone and delete the device from the sign-in methods list.

Please consult our guide to Multi-Factor Authentication to find out more information or get help with MFA if your phone is lost, stolen or broken.
