Mersey Maritime welcomes LJMU as 'valued' member

Industry cluster organisation Mersey Maritime says it is delighted to welcome Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) as a 'valued' new member.

Mersey Maritime was conceived twenty years ago to create an ecosystem, championing and supporting one of the most diverse maritime regions in the UK.

LJMU's own maritime history spans back as far as 1892 when it opened England's first nautical college and today provides support and teachings required to enter shore-based roles in marine surveying, maritime operations, port or ship management, consultancy, research, and maritime education. LJMU is also at the fore of maritime innovation and research into decarbonisation and digitisation.

Working in partnership, Mersey Maritime and LJMU aim to further bridge the gap between industry, academia, and education – addressing the challenges of industry with innovation and R&D whilst also enhancing the education of the next generation of maritime professionals with direct industry and business support.

Chief Executive Officer at Mersey Maritime Chris Shirling Rooke said: "At Mersey Maritime, our members are at the heart of everything we do. We are thrilled that Liverpool John Moores University is joining our ecosystem, we look forward to working closely with LJMU to create a brighter future for the sector and future generations."

Professor Mike Riley, from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Liverpool John Moores University, said: "The heart of our mission at LJMU is to connect research, innovation and skills with industry stakeholders in a way that makes a real difference and that liberates genuine impact.

"The maritime sector and the city region are in an exciting period and we are delighted to be working so closely with Mersey Maritime and their members to link academia, industry and key regional stakeholders is such a positive way.

"We are especially pleased to be doing so in our Bicentenary year when we have been reflecting on our proud history in maritime engineering, innovation and scholarship."

Mersey Maritime is widely recognised as the UK’s leading maritime cluster organisation bringing together industry, government, national trade bodies and academia to champion, grow and protect the UK maritime industry particularly in the North-West.

Mersey Maritime represents the interests of over 200 member companies and organisations, predominantly located in the Liverpool City Region.
