Staff update on Freshers activities 2023

LJMU and JMSU are gearing up for another action-packed Freshers period, working together to create an exciting range of events and activities to introduce new students to university life and welcome back those returning after the summer break.

An extensive programme of welcome events will run throughout the month of September, designed to help new students make friends, settle in, learn more about JMSU and LJMU, and enjoy a smooth and fun start to university life.

The main Freshers period will take place across two weeks (week 0 and week 1 in our Academic Calendar), from Monday 18 to Friday 22 September and Monday 25 to Friday 29 September 2023.

JMSU will be launching a Freshers ‘23 microsite on A-Level results day (Thursday 17 August) which will contain full details of all events and important information for students. We encourage all staff to signpost new and returning students to this once up and running, and in the meantime, to JMSU's website.

This year’s welcome period will see a series of themed ‘Freshers Focus’ events take place across key campuses in week 0, culminating in JMSU’s flagship event, Freshers Fair, at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool on Friday 22 September. Week 1 will include a range of excursions, inclusive activities and social events designed to help students have fun, get to know their new city, and find their ‘squad’.

We’ll also be hosting a number of JMSU induction talks across the welcome period for individual schools and will be dropping into all accommodation sites with games, competitions, activities, and freebies.

For those arriving or returning before the official start of the Freshers period, our ‘Coming Early’ programme will run from Saturday 2 September to Friday 15 September, providing nursing, midwifery, international, and any other students starting in early September with additional opportunities to socialise and settle in.

Students can book onto any event via the JMSU microsite from Thursday 17 August onwards, however there is no pre-booking required for Freshers Fair.
