LJMU community takes to the streets for Liverpool Pride 2023

130 from the LJMU community attend Pride

Over 130 students, staff and alumni joined the Liverpool City Region Pride March at the weekend.

Over 20,000 people from across the city joined the march which began at St Georges’ Plateau and ended at Liverpool’s waterfront.

The LJMU community including friends, family and pets were invited to meet at the Student Life Building to pick up LJMU branded Pride t-shirts and banners before heading to the march. The event was organised by the Diversity and Inclusion team in collaboration with LJMU Associate Dean: Diversity Inclusion (Professional Services) Phil Bakstad, JMSU and colleagues at the LJMU Sports Centre. Alongside joining the march, our HR Recruitment Team also had a presence at the Liverpool Pride stalls to expand on our outreach efforts of diversifying our staff make-up.

A Diversity and Inclusion spokesperson said:

“Thirteen years ago, a small group of our LJMU community joined the Pride March in Liverpool, this weekend over 130 students, staff and alumni marched through the streets with LJMU rainbow t-shirts for Pride. We’ve always been committed to diversity and inclusion but today it runs through our core values and our LJMU community. We couldn’t be prouder to march through the streets of Liverpool.”
