LJMU and JMSU share their words of wisdom for new students

We asked LJMU student support staff and our JMSU Student Officer team to share their ‘words of wisdom’ for our new students.

Here’s their advice as you embark on your journey with LJMU:

Be yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for support when you need it

Here at LJMU students are at the heart of everything we do.

From the academics that teach you, to the help and support available from our Student Advice and Wellbeing teams, Student Futures or Academic Achievement team based in our Libraries, there’s so many friendly faces ready to help, so just ask!

Get involved with sports, communities and societies, it’s the best way to make new friends

There are so many opportunities that come your way once you become an LJMU student. Liverpool John Moores Students’ Union (JMSU) has a range of societies, communities or sports teams to join where you can enjoy shared interests and take up new hobbies too.

Make the most of the gym and the facilities

Here at LJMU we know how important exercise is to the health and wellbeing of our community, so our student gym membership is just £25 for a whole year. This means 12 months of full access to fitness classes, the gym and the sports hall.

Get involved in JMSU events and volunteering

There are more than 30 Freshers events taking place throughout September 2023, so have a look what’s on and get yourself signed-up to some amazing activities both on campus and around the city.

Once you’re settled in, you can also apply to be a course rep, ensuring the student voice is heard for your school, plus there’s loads of volunteering opportunities across the city. What’s more, it’s a great way to meet people and make new friends who have similar interests to you.

Get active, get involved, make new friends, try new things and make yourself happy

From opportunities to study abroad to starting your own business or simply just exploring the top spots our wonderful city of Liverpool has to offer, the world is your oyster here at LJMU so make the most of all of the things you can get involved in alongside your studies.

And finally, a few words from your JMSU President Jasmine Howard…

“Just have fun, learn from your mistakes in first year so that your second and third years go better!”
