Latest Bicentenary film celebrates 200 years of 'yes you can'

LJMU has released its latest film to celebrate the university's bicentennial.

The film titled 200 years of ‘Yes you can’ celebrates the university’s long history within the city, raising people up.

The film features staff and students from across the university with references to the 1820s of ‘turning mechanics into scientists, sculptors into poets, and apprentices into graduates...’

Made by Mocha, a Liverpool-based film company founded and run by LJMU alumni, the film also reinforces LJMU’s strong commitment to its students from across society with the message ‘everyone belongs here.’

LJMU’s core values of being inclusive, courageous, student focused and caring about our community, are also given a nod to throughout, as well as LJMU's 200 year history, as it ends: ‘200 years of ‘yes you can’ that’s something worth celebrating.’

Fourth in a series of bicentenary films

The ‘200 years of ‘yes you can’ film is the latest video made in 2023 to celebrate the year.

‘LJMU always ahead of our time’ launched at the beginning of the bicentenary celebrations in January, followed by ‘LJMU, knowing my fate is to be with you’ in May, which gave a direct nod to the Eurovision Song Contest taking place in the city. ‘Graduation at LJMU: the start of something bigger’ then celebrated the biggest event in our calendar year and what it means to students.

Bicentenary throughout the rest of 2023

As the year-long celebrations continue over the next four months of 2023, you can find out more about our history and our people on our dedicated 200 webpages.

LJMU is also curating 200 online profiles, featuring some familiar faces, that will tell the stories of its people from the past, the present and those shaping and changing the future for the better.
