LJMU and JMSU have a range of support available if you are struggling with covering basic expenses such as food, housing and bills.
The Student Support Fund
Our Student Support Fund has been set up to offer students immediate financial support and advice. If you’re struggling to pay bills or cover food costs, you can apply for the support fund. All support payments given do not need to be paid back. Over the last academic year, we helped 2854 students with support averaging around £711 per application. We also have emergency food vouchers that can be given to students immediately.
Discounts
We offer a range of discounts across campus including 20% off in our Core Cafes when you use your student card. Discounted gym memberships, previously £125 are now currently £20 for the rest of the academic year (until 31 August). Our ‘Too Good to Go’ scheme also means you can pick up bags of food from our cafes, at the end of the day, at a discounted rate. Not only helping you with the cost of living but helping the planet too.
Freebies and giveaways
Our students’ union recently launched the Community Kitchen within JMSU social spaces across campus where you can grab tea, coffee, cuppa soup or a breakfast bar for free. We also supply free menstrual products in our bathrooms on campus, our libraries offer free stationery, plus our money advice team has pop up giveaways across campus, including free lunches and free laundry product giveaways.
