Updated Assessment and Feedback Policy

The Assessment and Feedback Policy has been updated, with two new areas of activity, and the full policy can be found on the LJMU Policy Centre.

An additional mechanism for internal moderation

Pre-marking standardisation is a calibration-based approach that is suited to large modules with multiple markers. Prior to marking, the team get together to mark several pieces of assessment and iron out any differences in grading and expectations.

A statement on the use of generative AI (GenAI) in assessment

In line with this, students will be expected, at the point of submission, to confirm that their work has been produced in line with LJMU expectations for academic integrity. This includes specific reference to the use of GenAI and whether the student is ‘Fit to Sit’. Details of this are provided in the student assessment guide, ‘Your study and assessment’

Other updates to the policy

In addition, the wording of the policy has been revised to clarify the role of External Examiner in approval of assessment and the management of independent double marking in moderation.

The policy is also more explicit on the role of the moderator/second marker related to confirmation of the standard of the marking and not the provision of additional feedback.

Training sessions

Academic Registry has organised a series of training sessions for colleagues to become more familiar with the LJMU policy on assessment. Book your pace using the LJMU Staff Development Calendar.

The Assessment and feedback guidance microsite has also been updated.
