LJMU makes commitment to become a Menopause Friendly employer

Many of our colleagues are going through menopause or supporting someone who is. Over the past few years, LJMU has been working to better understand and recognise the support needed by those experiencing the menopause and perimenopause, and to increase awareness across the organisation.

LJMU has now made a commitment to becoming a Menopause Friendly employer, this means that we are on the right path to introducing menopause awareness, guidance and support, which staff can find on the menopause section of the staff webpages.

We are proud of the progress we have made to date, and we want to keep the conversation going.

Planned activities throughout the year

Menopause Cafés

To celebrate World Menopause Day 2024 (18 October), join us for a cuppa and a chat at our next Menopause Café taking place ahead of the world awareness day on Wednesday 16 October from 10am to 11.30am in the Avril Robarts Library, second floor, training room three. Book onto the café via the Staff Events webpage.

Menopause Cafés aim to provide an opportunity for talk about menopause in a new way, to break down taboos, and increase awareness of the impact of the menopause on those experiencing it, their family, friends and their colleagues.

Watch the highlights of our 2023 World Menopause Day event.

Menopause yoga

Weekly menopause yoga sessions take place on Tuesdays at 12.15pm to 1pm in LJMU Sport Building, studio 1.

Learn a series of movements at beginner level, with an emphasis on passive stretches that calm the nervous system.

Mats are provided if you do not have your own.

The sessions are led by Maxine Sharples, a member of staff and a qualified yoga instructor. Book via the Staff Events webpage or the LJMU Sport app.

LearnUpon module on the menopause

If you would like to increase your awareness and understanding of menopause, you can complete the Menopause module on LearnUpon.

This is useful for those personally affected by menopause, as well as line managers and colleagues.

It may also help encourage and enable positive conversations and offer practical solutions to help create a menopause-friendly environment.

Further help and support from LJMU

If you have any suggestions or questions related to menopause support and awareness, you can contact the HR team via email.

We would also welcome anyone who would like to join the Menopause Matters Team Group.
