LJMU staff celebrated for their 1315 years of long service

Staff were celebrated at a long-service event this month for achieving LJMU career milestones.

33 members of staff attended the event and were celebrated for working at the university for 25, 35, 45 or 50 years.

Those eligible for the LJMU long service award this year, total an incredible 1315 years of service between them.

The event which took place at St George’s Hall, Liverpool, saw staff enjoy an afternoon tea, while Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power, thanked those in attendance for their dedication and commitment to LJMU over the years.

The Vice-Chancellor celebrated his own long service during LJMU’s Bicentenary year, having now worked at LJMU for over 43 years.

"In 35 years of working here, I have never been bored!"

Warren Anacoura has worked at LJMU for 35 years and was at the event. He started working at LJMU in 1989 as a computer technician at the School of Computing, then known as Information Science and Technology (ISAT). Over the years he progressed to IT Manager, and is now a Senior IT Engineer for ITS.

The reason I’ve continued working at LJMU for 35 years is for a combination of reasons. The good people I’ve worked with, a pleasant working environment, and the fact that my work continues to be interesting. I can honestly say in 35 years I have never been bored! There are always changes in IT; new ways of working, new technology and new puzzles to solve.

Andy Keegan, LJMU Head of Reward, Staff Engagement and Wellbeing, said:

“We had a great afternoon celebrating our LJMU long service staff, many of whom have committed their entire career to working at the university. It was great to hear the staff swap stories about the university and the fond memories they have of their time here.

“We had two members of staff this year, Peter Harper and Anthony Lanigan, who both reached their 50-year milestone. Peter was at the event with his wife Christine who was also celebrating 35 years at the university. It was great to see them and the 31 other members of staff be recognised for their commitment to LJMU over the years.”

Long-service recognition is part of LJMU’s People Plan and is one of the benefits of working at the university.
