Provide peer-to-peer wellbeing support

Over the past couple of years LJMU Connectors have been providing peer-to-peer mental wellbeing support to colleagues, at a local level, across the university.

Following the recent relaunch of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy, LJMU would like to grow this group, ensuring that all areas across the university have connectors and therefore allowing as many staff as possible access to wellbeing support.

LJMU Connectors

The 'LJMU Connectors' are voluntary roles that help us to ensure we have an environment where colleagues, who are concerned about their mental health, feel supported and are able to thrive.

The connectors are available for any member of staff to contact and will be able to provide advice, support and signpost colleagues to relevant information. All LJMU Connectors will receive prior and ongoing training during the role.

Key duties of our LJMU Connectors

  • Trained to spot early signs and symptoms of mental ill health (red flags).
  • Encourage staff to access appropriate professional support or self-help strategies acting as a conduit to these.
  • Have a good knowledge of LJMU's wellbeing offer and support available.
  • Promote and drive engagement of staff in mental health activities and initiatives across the university.
  • Listen to staff issues non-judgmentally, ensuring and maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Challenge stigma attached to mental ill health and raise awareness and importance of looking after your mental wellbeing.
  • Support the involvement of people with lived experience of mental ill health in raising awareness through events across the year.
