Student Recruitment, Marketing and Admissions take LJMU to Northern Ireland

Academic, professional service staff and students travelled to Belfast for a university applicant day which took place on Saturday 2 March.

The event offered pre-entry support and advice about all things LJMU, welcoming more than 500 visitors to two applicant events on the day.

Northern Ireland students are a key part of the student community at LJMU and longstanding outreach work in the region has seen the university become the most popular institution in Britain for those who decide to make the move across the Irish Sea.

Current Northern Ireland students Joel Irvine and Clodagh McErlean talked about their experiences making the journey to Liverpool, how they are enjoying their time at LJMU and making the most of all opportunities offered to them.

Sharon Roden, Schools and Colleges Account Manager in the outreach team said: “It was fantastic to see so much interest in LJMU. Feedback has been so positive with applicants and parents feeling reassured about making the move to Liverpool many stating that it has convinced them to make LJMU their first choice.”

The day brought the LJMU community together with representatives from all faculties and professional service teams to deliver course talks and offer guidance and support about finance and accommodation.

Visitors commented:

  • “Left me thinking about how I can’t wait to study here in September!”
  • “The staff and current students were super helpful and made me feel comfortable to ask questions and told us their personal stories of life in Liverpool.”
  • “This applicant day helped me a lot and made me feel even better about university in general and there was so much support available as well.”
  • “I loved the academic discussion as I was able to have a look at the modules that were offered and gain a better understanding of my course.”

Outreach Manager Peter Dolan said: “All involved in the day genuinely reflected what LJMU stands for in respect to our student focus, the emphasis on community and pastoral support.”

The outreach team will be travelling across the country over the next four months promoting LJMU at over 40 Higher Education Exhibitions. Including a return to Northern Ireland for the UCAS Discovery event on 25 and 26 April.
