Pensions and financial planning support for staff



A series of support and information sessions will be available to LJMU staff over the coming weeks to find out more about pensions and financial planning.

As part of Pension Awareness Week, a number of online events will be taking place, while LJMU’s Payroll and Pensions team is also soon hosting an in-person session. 

Pension Awareness Week 2024

This year’s awareness week begins on Monday 9 September and aims to give people more information about the importance of pensions and improve the financial wellbeing of people across the UK in their retirement.

Support and advice sessions

Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) sessions

LGPS is offering support and advice sessions during the week.

These events are for active members of the scheme as well as non-members who are eligible to join.

LGPS will deliver several live events using Microsoft Teams between Monday 9 and Thursday 12 September:

  • How your local government pension works (30 mins)
  • Taking your local government pension (30 mins)
  • Understanding your Annual Benefit Statement (30 mins)

You can register to attend the session(s) of your choice.

Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) sessions

TPS is offering the following events between Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 September.

  • Introduction for new starters to the Teachers’ Pension.
  • Getting the most from your Teachers' Pension.
  • Planning for retirement

In-person sessions at Exchange Station

LJMU’s Payroll & Pensions team is offering a whole day face-to-face session in October.

Initially for LGPS members, this event is only for employees who are within two years of retirement (minimum retirement age 55) and provides financial education.

This is a full-day seminar on Thursday 3 October in Exchange Station G20 and G21 covering the following topics:

  • Managing change (Transition into retirement)
  • Benefits provided by the state.
  • Independent financial advice.
  • Legacy planning (wills and trusts).
  • Occupational pension (Merseyside Pension Fund).

Space is limited, so please only book via this link if you are within two years of retirement.

We hope to offer a similar session for members of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme in due course. Look out for details.
