New staff profile system

This spring, LJMU will upgrade our public profiles system to the Digital Science Symplectic ‘Discovery’ system.

Discovery will be our system for enabling us and our communities to share our expertise and learn about what we are doing. It is based on our Symplectic Elements research data system and will wholly replace our current profile system.

All staff, PGRs and professional doctorate students will be able to have a public profile. This includes all professional, technical and honorary staff. As Discovery uses the Elements system, it will draw from the information you have already uploaded.

Discovery will bring welcome new key features:

  • It will combine all our profiles into one searchable system with a central landing page, giving everyone a front door into LJMU’s expertise.
  • Users can search staff by free text or by tags based on research and knowledge exchange activity and interests. They can refine their results with filters for department, research institute and centre affiliations, UN Sustainable Development Goals and staff availability.
  • Each profile will have pages for your ‘About Me’ overview, your research, your teaching, your publications, and your professional activity.
  • You can add summary text to narrate your research, teaching, and professional interests.
  • You can embed media into your profile, including YouTube links to showcase your research talks.

A group of LJMU academics is currently testing the system before launch. As we get closer to the spring rollout, Research and Innovation Services (RIS) will provide guidance on how to complete each section. The guidance will stay up online, hosted on a RIS website to assist you.
