New Neonatal Care Leave Policy and updated Family Friendly policies
A new Neonatal Care Leave Policy has been created and updates have been made to existing family friendly policies in relation to neonatal care leave.
Neonatal Care Leave Policy
The Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act is intended to support parents of babies who are born on or after the 6 April 2025 and admitted into neonatal care within 28 days of birth. Staff who are entitled to family leave under this policy (e.g. maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave) will also be entitled to an additional period of Neonatal Care leave (NCL) to add to the beginning or end of their family leave period (up to a maximum of 12 weeks).
Updates to existing HR Policies
The following policies have been updated to include the statutory right to neonatal care leave and pay:

- Maternity Policy
- Parental Leave Policy
- Paternity Leave Policy
- Shared Parental Leave Policy
Accessing LJMU policies
Policies can be accessed via the LJMU Policy Centre and staff can use the search function, using the name of the policy, to access the relevant document.
