LJMU to support College of Policing in training future leaders in the police service

The Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing at LJMU will be an assessment partner for a programme, run by the College of Policing, aimed at training future leaders in the police service.

LJMU was selected to assess and moderate the learners’ academic assignments for the Executive Leaders Programme due to its extensive experience and proven track record in delivering leadership programmes.

The university’s advanced policing team brings a broad range of expertise and significant policing experience, having successfully managed programmes such as the National Graduate Leadership Programme and the National Detective Programme with Police Now. LJMU is one of the largest educators of police officers in the country, offering policing degrees, degree apprenticeships, postgraduate and professional programmes.

LJMU will oversee two written assignments on the Executive Leaders Programme, ensuring that participants receive quality support and learning opportunities. The collaboration will support the training of around 100 officers and staff working in policing, or wider law enforcement, over the next two years.

We are pleased to partner with Liverpool John Moores University in the assessment of those undertaking the Executive Leaders Programme.

LJMU's team, with their extensive policing experience and expertise, provides invaluable support and learning opportunities.

Their proven track record in delivering leadership programmes makes them the ideal partner to help develop the next generation of executive leaders in policing.

Ray Clare, Head of Leadership and Progression at the College of Policing

Dr Carol Cox, Head of the Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing, said: “The police service are operating in a more complex environment than ever before and it is a fantastic opportunity for us to work with the College of Policing and the future leaders of the police service.”

More about the Executive Leaders Programme

The Executive Leaders Programme (ELP) replaced the Strategic Command Course in 2023 and is recognised as the most prestigious programme for executive leaders in policing.

Designed to develop police officers and staff towards executive leadership roles, the ELP aligns with the leadership standards and relevant role profiles.

The 19-week programme is structured into three comprehensive modules: personal and inclusive leadership, organisational leadership, and operational leadership. These modules aim to build personal resilience, boost confidence, and enhance capabilities, ensuring participants gain a deep understanding of key concepts, essential skills, and practical experience needed for executive leadership roles.
