Period Reality staff workshop in June

Staff are invited to attend an interactive 90-minute workshop exploring how the different phases of the menstrual cycle affect energy, mood and working patterns.

The event will be hosted in the Student Life Building, Room 206, from 10am to 11.30am on Tuesday 3 June.

Sign up via the Staff Events page.

Supporting wellbeing at LJMU

Led by Marlou Cornelissen, founder of Period Reality, the session offers a supportive space to reflect, learn and explore how menstrual awareness can enhance staff wellbeing and workplace culture and links to the LJMU wellbeing goals in the areas of  ‘self-care and resilience’ and ‘empowering individuals’.

With practical tools and cycle-tracking insights, staff will gain a better understanding of how to align their workflow and wellbeing with their hormonal rhythms.

All are welcome to attend, however it is most relevant for women and people who menstruate.

The event is funded as part of the LJMU wellbeing events series for 2025 and has been organised by Dr Katherine Neary.

Menstruation Matters research

The upcoming staff workshop links with an ongoing research project at LJMU, funded by our Diversity and Inclusion team, focused on the impact of menstruation called ‘Menstruation Matters’ co-led by Dr Neary.

Our team of researchers at Liverpool Business School are working in collaboration with three LJMU student co-researchers, and JMSU, to explore the stigma and disparity of menstruation experiences for LJMU students in relation to attendance, participation, wellbeing and sustainable product choices.

The research seeks to open the conversation up around this often-ignored issue, addressing contemporary, sensitive factors to produce recommendations to make the campus more inclusive for everyone with periods.

The current research project builds upon the successful #LJMUFreePeriod campaign that provided free products to students, led by Professor Kay Standing and Professor Sara Parker.

Anyone interested in the research and who might like to participate in data collection on the impact of menstruation on staff whilst at work can email Dr Neary.
