Police detectives graduate!

Congratulations to our newly-qualified police detectives on their graduation from the university!
Our first graduates celebrated their success from the Police Now National Detective Programme in a ceremony in London.
Programme Leader in LJMU’s Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing, Garry Shewan, said: “They have shown themselves to be exceptional police officers with significant investigative experience even at this early stage of their careers.
“We all wish them the very best for the future.”
Police Now is a charity supporting the recruitment and training of police officers across England & Wales, which has partnered with 36 forces.
LJMU and Police Now teamed up in 2022 and together run two programmes for graduates. Both offer direct-entry routes into policing, which place graduates into the communities and teams that need them most and support them to become exceptional frontline leaders.
The National Graduate Leadership Programme places officers onto community policing roles in some of the most challenging communities. The National Detective Programme secures officers the skills to take on challenging investigations.
Both offer distance learning programmes with LJMU, in tandem with on-the-job experience, leading to a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice in 18 months with work-based assignments.
Almost 300 Police Now officers, friends and family attended the graduation ceremony.
Added Garry, a senior lecturer at LJMU: “It has been a privilege for me to design and deliver this programme alongside Police Now. These graduates are encouraged to be always professionally curious and make an impact in our communities by being at the heart of crime reduction and increasing public confidence in policing.
“This cohort of detectives have shown themselves to be exceptional officers who are totally committed to making their communities safer.”
During the ceremony at Kensington Town Hall, Garry presented the following awards:
- Eloise Quinlan – highest overall grade in her diploma
- Thea Williams - The Grit Award – student showing resilience and overcoming challenges
- Lydia Green – The Innovation Award
- Michelle Bailey – Excellence Through Learning Award
