Not the 9 to 5: meet BBC Radio presenter, Ngunan Adamu

Watch the interview with BBC radio presenter, Ngunan Adamu above.

Are you looking for a job that's a bit unconventional? Not really suited to 9 to 5 office work? Our new series of features introduces LJMU alumni who've chosen a career that's off the beaten track.

For the first in our series, we chat with BBC Radio Merseyside presenter and LJMU alumna, Ngunan Adamu. You'll hear Ngunan every Sunday night presenting the Upfront Show, a magazine show playing music and covering a range of topics for Merseyside's black community.

Considering radio wasn't on her radar, Ngunan has done amazingly well since completing her degree in Journalism at LJMU. Not only is she a BBC presenter but she's the founder of iWoman, a programme which helps unemployed women in the region develop the skills and confidence to get into media. She's also been involved in training other journalists for the BBC World Service and has worked on the BBC School Report programme (now known as BBC Young Reporter).

Watch the interview to find out how she got her foot in the door of the BBC, what projects she's been involved in and her advice for how to get into radio.

"On radio you're not just a voice, your someone's friend."
