Christy Jade Biggar joined LJMU in January 2018 and teaches in the journalism department, leading the teaching of shorthand on the Journalism and Sports Journalism BA and MA courses.

She is a former LJMU Journalism BA student and during her time at university, she won prizes for her work at the Liverpool Echo and the Linda LaPlante fund award for best journalism project, as well as founding the Journalism Society which still runs to this day. During her time at LJMU, Christy was selected to represent the university on a month-long journalism trip to Hangzhou, China in 2015. Christy worked with Claire House Children’s Hospice and The Independent on Sunday during her time at LJMU, and she won ‘Community Reporter of the Year’ from the Liverpool Echo.

After graduating with a first-class degree in Journalism, Christy finished her PGCE from the University of Chester a year later. She has worked in two local secondary schools on the Wirral, teaching both English and Media at GCSE and A-Level, before transitioning to teaching in higher education.

Most recently, Christy was awarded the internationally recognised award, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and the LJMU APSS Excellence in Teaching 'Rising Star' award in April 2023.
