I am a Fine Artist and Art & Design senior lecturer, specialising in conceptual installation with 17 years of experience of working in Higher Education (H.E). I have also had the privilege of teaching and heading up a large Art and Design department in Cheshire for 12 years and was part of the Cheshire Artists Network. I have been a member of school and HE leadership teams, line managing creative subject areas and leading professional learning for educators at all stages of their careers.

Throughout my career I have been and remain passionate about Art and Design education, particularly its transformational potential in helping pupils find their voice to express themselves creatively - regardless of their background or academic ability. I am passionate about improving outcomes and opportunities for children, young people and educational professionals making a real difference to their life chances and educational practice. I am one of the co-directors of the Research into Education, Creativity and Arts through Practice (RECAP) centre at the University of Chester, specialising in practice-led research.

I was recently (2021-2025) the Head of childhood, education, and professional development (CEPD) department at the University of Chester. Having strategic and operational responsibility for the development and management of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate awards which support students and the education workforce with their strategic priorities and individual career aspirations. My H.E experience includes programme leadership of a range of postgraduate awards, including the design and development of the MA creative practices degree and Art and Design PGCE at the University of Chester.

I was the Head of Professional Partnership Development at Liverpool Hope University from 2017-2021, where I worked in collaboration with schools, local authorities, colleges and community education providers nationally and internationally contributing to the strategic and operational development of innovative teacher education, dynamic continuing professional learning of educators and support staff, school to school support and educational research. I was also the co-director of the Centre for Education and Policy Analysis (CEPA) which allowed me to foreground arts methodology and participatory research within the school of education and to engage in a dialogue about these practices with other HEIs and partners nationally and internationally.
