I am a registered nurse with over 20 years clinical experience. I began my career working in the acute trust, spending many years working in the Accident and Emergency department. I then took a position as a Hyperbaric nurse specialist caring for patients in a decompression chamber. I have since worked in the community as a 111 Nurse Clinician and 111 Clinical trainer, finally I was employed to launch and develop a the Wirral’s award winning Teletriage service that introduced video assessment into care homes to provide remote assistance to care home staff to avoid hospital admissions. As part of my development in this role I completed an MSc in advanced clinical practice and became and independent prescriber, allowing me to work as an advanced nurse practitioner. My clinical career enabled me to gain a diverse experience of acute and community experience, caring for patients both face to face and remotely.
Throughout my career I have actively sought opportunities to educate others, from supporting students and junior staff to delivering formal education. After working as a visiting lecturer for the University of Chester I made the decision to move to academia full time. I really enjoy my role as a lecturer at LJMU as I am able to share my experience and knowledge with a new generation of nurses and nurse associates.
