I am a Professor of Applied Social and Community Psychology. I joined the School of Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University as a Senior Lecturer in Psychology in December 2022. I gain my degree in Psychology from the University of Liverpool in 1995, MSc. in Forensic Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2012 and gained my PhD at the University of Liverpool in 2002 investigating the social and community integration of older adults with intellectual disabilities living in different campus and community settings.
My primary research focus is on the empowerment, inclusion and wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities in online and offline contexts. My research work has concentrated on the health and social wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities at different life stages. I have also been involved in a number of multidisciplinary collaborative investigations into the impact and effectiveness of interventions for people with intellectual disabilities and those who support them. I am currently working with a number of national advocacy and health and social care organisations and national and international academic colleagues on projects investigating digital and community inclusion.
