I joined LJMU in 1999 as a Lecturer in Bioorganic Chemistry and am now a Professor in Pharmaceutical Biomaterials My research interests include the use of biodegradable polymers for the micro and nanoparticle delivery of drugs and biological molecules. Specific examples of ongoing projects include the nasal delivery of novel CGRP-targeted peptide antagonists to treat migraine.

Between 2016 and 2021 I was seconded as Head of the LJMU Institute for Health Research which involved the strategic facilitation of healthcare research across all 5 Faculties and provided me with an appreciation of research across different health professions and sectors.

During 2022 I undertook a secondment with Liverpool Health Partners as Head of Education and Research Capacity Building. This involved working with local NHS trusts, HEIS and other health and social care providers around improving system-wide capacity for health and care research. This has led onto new research projects around the development of the Health and Care Research Workforce and the growth of an IHR Interest group in Workforce Development.
