Turnitin Support
Please note all staff should now have transitioned over to the Turnitin Framework, for the latest information on Turnitin please keep an eye on the Turnitin section of the learning tech website
Season’s greetings from the Faculty TEL team,
This will likely be the last email of the year from Neal, Ruth and I so we would like to collectively wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We will be around until 21 December and then back in the New Year. If, over this period, you need original Turnitin assessment support check out the not exactly festive links below. The new Turnitin Framework is also covered briefly at the very bottom of this email, however the majority of colleagues can ignore these – those using the new framework will know who they are.
Either way, hopefully the collated links below will bring help (and thus good cheer) to a few of you over the winter break…
Adding yourself to a course if it cannot be found in your course list or dashboard
Setting up Original Turnitin Assignments
Step 1 – Create the assignment
Step 2 – Adjust settings on the Turnitin page
Step 3 – Mute the grade notifications
Step 4 – Set assignment weightings (Required – if you have multiple assignment not equally weighted)
Optional – Setting up assignments for students with extensions
Marking in the Original Turnitin Feedback Studio
Go to Assignments -> then click on the relevant assignment -> in some cases you may also need to select ‘Load in new window’ in order to access the Turnitin inbox. Within the inbox click on the pen iconnext to each student to access that student’s work:
Feedback Studio video overview\walkthrough
Annotating and commenting on student work
Creating your own or using pre-built QuickMark comments
Accessibility support (staff and students)
Remember Turnitin only releases feedback and grades to students when the ‘feedback release date’ passes. In addition you can also reveal the grades (but not feedback) in the Canvas course grades area after this date by going into the grades area and unmuting the grades column.

Turnitin Framework
The small number of faculty colleagues using the brand new Turnitin framework can find some guidance on setup and marking anonymously via the central support pages. These two videos for students on the submission process and accessing feedback may also be of use.
Some of the links above point to centrally created resources so, as ever, a big thank you to the central team for putting them together. For general Canvas support over the holidays you can contact Canvas 24/7 on 0800 069 8618 or via the live chat.
As always, if you need any more ideas, tips or help on these items or TEL in general, feel free to call into either HC 217 or IM B005 or, email or use the numbers below.
