A new training resource to help students build competency and confidence in clinical skills
Elsevier Clinical Skills is an online platform/LMS designed to help nursing students, educators and professionals develop their clinical skills. It provides users with a comprehensive collection of skill-building activities and assessments as well as demonstration videos, illustrations, animations and interactive tutorials. The platform also provides access to a library of evidence-based clinical resources.
The main features of Elsevier Clinical Skills include:
• An online library of clinical skills resources on subjects ranging from ABCDE Assessment and Catheterisation to Communicating with Patients with Dementia and Mental Health First Aid
• Equipment lists, knowledge check tests and performance checklists for each skill
• The ability to assign specific skills to cohort groups and the ability to monitor progress of individual learners, helping to identify knowledge gaps
• The ability to add new skills to the library and update existing content
What skills does Elsevier Clinical Skills cover?
See the following ECS webpage for a complete list of skills: https://www.elsevierclinicalskills.co.uk/allprocedures
Will I need training in Elsevier Clinical Skills?
As well as its rich library of content, Elsevier Clinical Skills was selected for its easy-to-use interface. The process of uploading course cohorts to ECS will also be managed by members of the programme team, who have also had training in using the platform and can help you with any queries should they arise. We will shortly produce some mini-guides on topics including assigning skills to students and monitoring activity completion. These will be available via the TEL Training Canvas site.
What do I need to do now?
Keep an eye out for an email from Elsevier asking you to register, at which point you’ll have access to the platform. Please email j.mills1@ljmu.ac.uk or b.e.howarth@ljmu.ac.uk if you cannot find your signup email.
