1. Student wows gallery with da Vinci public event

   Anna's public workshop combined two of Leonardo da Vinci's passions of music and art in a workshop that explored how music can elevate and influence art.

3. Liverpool Philharmonic, Help Musicians UK and LJMU announce pioneering research partnership

   Liverpool Philharmonic, Help Musicians UK and Liverpool John Moores University have announced a new partnership for groundbreaking research into injury prevention in professional musicians.

4. Researching the kingfisher’s iconic hydrodynamic design

   Renowned for their noiseless dive, the kingfisher’s iconic beak-shape has inspired the design of high speed bullet trains. Now scientists have tested beak-shape among some of the birds’ 114 species found world-wide, to assess which shape is the most hydrodynamic.

5. Consultation LJMU and the Atlantic Slave Economy

   In February 2019, LJMU joined the Universities Studying Slavery Consortium (USS), based at the University of Virginia.

6. Professional Services Conference 2019

   Registration is open for the 2019 Professional Services Conference, being held on Thursday 27th June in the Redmonds building. This year’s theme is “Leadership Matters” with a focus on resilience, health and wellbeing.

8. Galaxies are cosmic cauldrons heated by star formation

   Astronomers show that stars form rapidly and drive interstellar gas bubbles throughout galaxies.

9. New study suggests explanations for usage of plesiosaurs’ long necks

   Plesiosaurs are an extinct group of marine reptiles from the age of dinosaurs who are famous for their long necks. The effect of such long necks on how these animals swam is a mystery but now computer simulations are helping LJMU scientists understand what would happen if a plesiosaur turned its head while swimming.
