1. LJMU Staff Networks and plans for 2022 

   We caught up with the co-chairs of the current LJMU staff networks to find out what they have already achieved and what their plans are for 2022.  

2. Care experienced girls and young women still at risk of unnecessary criminalisation

   Girls and women who have been through the care system should be diverted away from custodial sentences into community alternatives wherever possible, says a new report published today (Weds 4 May 2022). And the study adds that moves to prevent the criminalisation of girls in care need to be high on the agenda for change.

3. Massive stars sound warning they are about to go supernova

   In a new study, published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, researchers have for the first time simulated how these massive stars seemingly fade away and disappear when they enter their pre-explosion phase.

4. Register for the Students at the Heart Conference 2024

   Staff and students can now register to attend the conference, with various workshops and sessions taking place across the two days, in the Redmonds and Student Life buildings, on LJMU campus.

5. Global Active Cities project shortlisted for THE International Collaboration award

   An LJMU spearheaded initiative to increase physical activity within cities across the globe has been shortlisted for a prestigious Times Higher Education Award.

6. Women in Professional Services event: Wednesday 12 October 2022

   Staff are invited to the first face-to-face networking event organised by the Women in Professional Services (WPS) Network, taking place on Wednesday 12 October 2022 at the Student Life Building with guest speaker Dawn Corker.

7. LJMU makes commitment to become a Menopause Friendly employer

   Marking World Menopause Day 2024 the university continues to progress its workplace support, awareness and understanding of the menopause.

8. Empowering staff to support PGRs from racially minoritised groups

   Academic and professional services staff who support PGRs have a bespoke training and development opportunity designed by the educational charity Grit Breakthrough. Using a coaching approach to support PGRs is a two-day online coaching workshop, which will run across two days in November.

9. Laser Run added to Invictus Games 2027 thanks to influence of LJMU

   LJMU has been a trailblazer in the inclusive sport of Para Pentathlon, so much so that the Para Laser element of the event has been added to the Invictus Games.

10. Trainee nurses benefit from latest digital technology

    Trainee nurses and midwives at Liverpool John Moores University will be skilled in state-of-the-art medication management technology software after the university teamed up with international software firm Better.
