   Research which highlights changes to the human body during lockdown and other sedentary situations is having a huge impact among scientists worldwide.

3. Athena SWAN success for School of Sport and Exercise Sciences

   The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences has been successful in its application for Athena SWAN Bronze Award.

4. Christmas closure and support services over the festive break

   The university will close at 5pm on Thursday 23 December and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 4 January. The Student Life Building will be open 24/7 throughout the festive break including on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

5. Praise for policing student who goes above and beyond

   A first year policing student has gone above and beyond during her first week at LJMU by helping a total stranger on a night out.

   There is a surplus of private student accommodation in Liverpool so you can take your time to do your research and find the right property later in the academic year. 

7. 'Ask for Martin'

   LJMU and JMSU work hard to support all students who have been victims of harassment and/or assault.  However, the recent reports of increased spiking in clubs and bars in Liverpool and other cities around the UK are extremely concerning and we want to reassure all students that support is available to anyone affected by this issue. 

8. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

9. Introducing eco-friendly search engine Ecosia

   In support of JMSUs Sustainability Week taking place from next Monday, 3 February, the university will be trialling a new eco-friendly default internet search engine.

10. LJMU donates microscopes for African youngsters

    A project is underway to ship LJMU microscopes to Africa.
