1. LJMU shortlisted for six nominations at education awards

   LJMU has been shortlisted in six categories at the Educate North Awards 2016 to be held on Thursday 21st April in Manchester.

2. LJMU becomes accredited Living Wage employer

   LJMU has become the first University in the city and the largest employer in Liverpool to be accredited as a Living Wage employer.

3. Lecturer at LJMU scoops prestigious honour for Design and Technology education

   Matt McLain from LJMU’s School of Education has been honoured for his achievements in teacher training at the Design and Technology Association Excellence Awards held last month. The Design and Technology teachers of tomorrow may have a special someone to thank for inspiring them in their careers, if a special accolade awarded to an LJMU lecturer is anything to go by.

4. LJMU and Shakespeare North

   Planning permission has been granted for a new £19 million Shakespeare theatre for Prescot, Knowsley, which will have education at its heart.

5. World’s obese population hits 640 million

   More than one in ten men and one in seven women across the globe are now obese, according to the world’s biggest obesity study.

6. Disabled children to fulfil their potential through LJMU partnership

   A new interactive online training resource will help schools unlock opportunity and help disabled children reach their full potential. LJMU in collaboration with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have launched the project after statistics for attainment in primary and secondary schools show a significant gap between pupils with no identified special educational needs (SEN) and disabled pupils.

7. LJMU relations with Nepal strengthened after researchers meet with President

   Researchers from LJMU have met with the President of Nepal, the Right honourable Bidhya Devi Bhandari, to discuss issues relating to education, gender, women's rights and social justice. Dr Sara Parker from Sociology, School of Humanities and Social Science and Rose Khatri from the Centre for Public Health recently met with the President and spoke for almost two hours.

8. Move over Sir Alan Sugar: Graduate start-ups on the rise at LJMU

   The number of active Graduate Start Ups are still on the rise at LJMU according to the latest annual Higher Education – Business and Community Interaction survey (HE-BCI).

9. Panama welcomes LJMU at world-famous canal launch

   A Liverpool delegation including Eddie Blanco-Davis, from LJMU’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology flew to Panama at the behest of the UK embassy in Panama to attend the official launch of the £3.9bn expansion of the Panama Canal.

10. 25 years of nursing at LJMU

    A year before Liverpool Polytechnic became Liverpool John Moores University, another major change happened at the institution. In April 1991, the Liverpool School of Nursing and Midwifery amalgamated with the Poly, laying the foundations for today’s School of Nursing and Allied Health.
