   Here are some highlights of what happened at the first two graduation ceremonies of the week.

2. Dr Alan Bury recognised for twenty year contribution to maritime education

   Dr Alan Bury, Senior Teaching Fellow from the School of Engineering has been awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal.

3. Media Production student Lilly wins British Citizen Youth Award

   Lilly Crisp, a second-year media production (BA) student has won a British Citizen Youth Award (BCyA) at a ceremony in Westminster thanks to her multiple volunteering roles since the age of 14.

4. LJMU recognised for supporting athletes in education

   Liverpool John Moores University has been recognised as a leading institution in supporting talented athletes in education.

5. Vice-Chancellor appointed Chairman of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic

   LJMU Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Nigel Weatherill, has been appointed Chairman of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. The announcement of Professor Weatherill’s appointment as Chair for an initial three-year term has been made following approval of the recommendation by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Board of Directors.

6. VC becomes Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside

   LJMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Weatherill, has been made Deputy Lieutenant in the County of Merseyside, recognising his contribution to the region

   Meet Muhammad, Becky, Charlotte, and Justin, LJMU students who share their Discovery Internship story, where they balanced study and hands-on experience.

8. World-class status for Sport and Exercise Sciences in new academic ranking

   Liverpool John Moores University’s School of Sport and Exercise Sciences has been named the 6th best department in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for the Sports Sciences subject area, highlighting the School’s global research influence. The results also show the School ranked as the 2nd best department in the UK and the 3rd best in Europe.
