   The start of the academic year can be a good time to review your pension arrangements. All academic teaching staff are reminded that they can sign-up to an online portal if they are members of the Teachers Pension Scheme.

   The Leadership and Development Foundation is undergoing some changes to better support all staff development across the whole of LJMU.

5. Applications open for Research England Policy Support Fund

   LJMU is being allocated funding from the Research England Policy Support Fund (PSF) to support the development of impactful research and engagement activities. Applications of up to £10,000 will be considered and applicants have until 5pm on Monday 10 October 2022 to make a submission.

6. Student Spotlight: Abbie Romano

   The representations of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) roles is improving, but there’s work to be done. As of 2018, WISE Campaign (Women into Science and Engineering) announced that the UK is on track to have one million women working in the field by 2020. These statistics are encouraging, and demonstrate an improvement in opportunities shown to young women who pursue the career path.

7. Pandemics and public health: have we found our new normal? - Conan Leavey and Graeme Mitchell, Public Health Institute, LJMU

   It was only a relatively short time ago - in March this year - that the World Health Organisation declared Covid-19 a pandemic. We know now that it is likely to be many, many months before the UK pronounces its outbreak over; and certainly years before it is over globally.

8. IVF pioneer leads new Masters in Clinical Embryology

   A shortage of fertility professionals has prompted a new Masters degree with Liverpool John Moores University.

9. Pandemic exacerbated disadvantages faced by young people with special needs and disabilities

   Education, mental health, and social care downgraded or, in some cases, withdrawn altogether.

10. Fault reporting processes for the new academic year

    As the new academic year begins and our campus becomes busy once more, staff are reminded to ensure that all faults are reported via the respective Helpdesks.
