   World AIDS Day takes place on 1st December each year.

2. Making Liverpool schools sun safe this summer

   Liverpool John Moores University is working with the Skcin cancer charity and the Clare Daly Foundation to roll out the Sun Safe Schools accreditation across primary schools in the Liverpool region, which will benefit up to 10,000 children.

3. Bid to stop stigma of menstruation in Nepal

   LJMU researchers have secured a £300,000 grant from the British Academy to tackle the stigma faced by Nepalese women during menstruation.

4. New Liverpool Health Commission to focus on first 1,000 days of life

   Liverpool Health Commission, an independent panel established by Liverpool John Moores University, with research expertise and support provided by the university, has been set up to investigate and analyse health care policy issues.

5. Research and Innovation Day Invites Entries to Scholarly Snaps Competition

   The competition for scholarly snaps will take place again at this year's Research and Innovation Day on Wednesday 19th June. To be a part of this competition please submit your pictures by Wednesday 5th June.

6. Researching the kingfisher’s iconic hydrodynamic design

   Renowned for their noiseless dive, the kingfisher’s iconic beak-shape has inspired the design of high speed bullet trains. Now scientists have tested beak-shape among some of the birds’ 114 species found world-wide, to assess which shape is the most hydrodynamic.
