1. Founders' Day dinner to mark LJMU 200

   Distinguished guests and friends of the university were invited to a Founders’ Day dinner at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral yesterday evening, Thursday 6 July, to commemorate LJMU’s Bicentenary.

2. Improving access for BAME students

   LJMU has been part of a successful consortium bid for funds to improve opportunities for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students to undertake postgraduate research.

3. More than 120 local school pupils take part in LJMU Summer University

   Over the past month, more than 120 14- to 17-year-olds from across the UK have taken part in LJMU summer schools to inspire students from underrepresented backgrounds to consider higher education.

4. Happy Diwali!

   Diwali is an annual five-day festival of lights celebrated during the Hindu month of Kartika. In the spirit of celebration, let us all get involved with the brilliant array of events occurring during this period in Liverpool, in neighbouring cities and even virtually. Happy Diwali everyone!

5. Gamma-ray burst captured in unprecedented detail

   An international team including LJMU and led by University of Maryland has constructed one of the most detailed descriptions of a gamma-ray burst to date.

6. Improvement works at John Foster Building

   Next month (June 2022), we will begin a programme of improvement works to John Foster Building, which means it will be closed for a period over the summer.

7. Staff Car Parking Update

   Following a recent review of LJMU staff car parking provision, the university will continue to subsidise staff car parking until 31 August 2023.
