1. UN Special Rapporteur joins LJMU webinar on preventative detention

   From Guantanamo to Xinjiang, from India to Europe, governments globally appear increasingly willing to detain citizens and migrants on suspicion rather than evidence.

3. Researcher gains national coverage for work on human trafficking

   LJMU’s Dr Daniel Silverstone, Director of Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing Studies, has delivered a series of national media interviews related to his research on human trafficking.

   Following the call for nominations, an election for the non-teaching member of staff on Academic Board will take place.

5. Prestigious position in development and evolution of built environment education

   Professor Mike Riley, Head of Department for Built Environment at LJMU, has been elected as Chair of the Council of Heads of Built Environment (CHOBE).

6. Catering store within iBuy down 14 to 18 August

   The catering store within iBuy will be down from 14 to 18 August. Any catering requests for during this period and up to the 22 August should be booked in advance.

7. Getting it Right: Name pronunciation

   As part of our LJMU Equality’s ‘Getting it Right’ campaign, the team is highlighting the importance of pronouncing the names of different students and staff right.

8. LJMU launches Sponsorship Programme for Ethnically Diverse Staff

   The Diverse Futures: LJMU Sponsorship Programme is designed to pair ethnically diverse staff with senior leaders and managers.

9. 'Ask for Martin'

   LJMU and JMSU work hard to support all students who have been victims of harassment and/or assault.  However, the recent reports of increased spiking in clubs and bars in Liverpool and other cities around the UK are extremely concerning and we want to reassure all students that support is available to anyone affected by this issue.
